PROGRAM OFFICER
 
The SICKLE CELL HOPE ALIVE FOUNDATION (SCHAF) is a registered, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization of concerned professionals working together for the prevention of sickle cell disease and improved care of those affected by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Nigeria. The organization has a multidisciplinary team of experts (geneticists, paediatricians, haematologists, pharmacists, nutritionists, surgeons, microbiologists, and community-oriented professionals. SCHAF was registered in 2012 (the CAC in Abuja (Reg No: RC: CAC/IT/NO 45557, the year 2012) and inaugurated in June 2014. SCHAF also has a viable functional Website: www.schafng.org. The Vision is to reduce the burden of SCD in Nigeria through her Mission of increased awareness, education & phenotype screening for a preventive approach, facilitating care and empowerment for SCD affected individuals and conducting research on confounding factors of Sickle Cell Disease. SCHAF is in collaboration with the University of Ibadan and other organisations in order to make a community impact in its vicinity in the South west region and Nigeria in general. The Project Office location is at Olubadan Estate, New Ife Road, Ibadan, Nigeria.
The project requires a Program Officer who would work with the project management team and be based in Ibadan. The position is a short term to long term employment subject to satisfactory job performance and has potentials for dynamic growth.
 
Job Description
 
The Program Officer will be expected to:
● Coordinate project implementation as well as research activities (community and field) as well as relate with other project personnel.
● Actively engage with the Foundation’s management and directly take instructions from the CEO/Founder with respect to the vision and mission of the Foundation.
● Take responsibility for overseeing report writing, research activities including data collection, analysis, and draft manuscript preparations, and monitoring and evaluation of ongoing activities.
● Perform relevant stakeholder mapping, situational analysis and systematic reviews as may be indicated.
● Carry out other assigned duties as may be specified by the Management of the Foundation, including but not limited to:
▪ Creating pitch decks for community and fundraising events.
▪ Build the overall brand positioning and messaging of SCHAF brand.
▪ Responsible for developing all the SCHAF content and communications strategy – to patients, partners, internal stakeholders and prospective sponsors/donors.
▪ Create an annual communications plan and budget to drive awareness, care, and engagement with SCHAF to be refreshed quarterly.
▪ Responsible for implementing content and communication strategy across all the channels -press, email, website, blog, SMS, social media, and events.
▪ Responsible for developing, measuring and reporting the impact of marketing activities on monthly basis and proactively making recommendations for optimization and improvements.
▪ Proactively identifying co-marketing and brand partnership opportunities to scale-up SCHAF visibility (eg Media outlets, other NGOs transportation companies for Fleet wraps).
▪ Work with the SCHAF Community Development leader to promote, coordinate and drive the experience for SCHAF outreach events locally.
▪ Create a domain email for Senior management.
▪ Creating quarterly newsletters to communicate with SCHAF members & executives.
 
Background / Experience / Required Competencies:
 
● A Master’s degree in a health-related field is a minimum requirement.
● Initiative and ability to work autonomously.
● High level of personal and professional integrity.
● Excellent organizational and coordination skills and strength in building and maintaining relationships.
● Demonstration of leadership skills
● Excellent communication and editing skills including a very high standard of presentation, writing and verbal in English.
● Particularly good proficiency in relevant computer applications particularly Microsoft Office- Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
● Excellent savviness in the use of internet and social media for publicity and dissemination.
● Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new programme settings, learning new administrative and project management systems.
● Previous experience in clinical/research work will be an advantage.
● Previous experience/involvement in grant projects - project design, implementation and Monitoring and Evaluation will be an added advantage.
